Not so Ordinary

A couple of months ago I happened to stumble across a brand new skincare range that catered to my needs and of course was in my price range, The Ordinary. I'd probably have to say that when it comes to skincare for me I'd choose it over makeup products any day! Why? Well because let's be real here, what's a good makeup look without a flawless base underneath? Am I right? Maybe.. who knows but let's just agree to disagree!

The founder of The Ordinary, Brandon Truaxe created this affordable skincare range because other competitors disguise commodity innovation for ingenuity through creative use of their packaging, pricing and advertising and for Brandon to keep his prices down in his new range he decided to take everything from other brands and break it down to its simplest form but making sure the quality of his products are well and truly worth it! Prices on the website range from £3.90 to £15 which is amazing if I do say so myself! But... in true words of Queen Missy Elliot, is it worth it? Let me work it!

I have been struggling with acne scarring my whole life... ugh a bit too dramatic I know but it feels like forever since I had flawless skin! (oh to be a young child that hasn't gone through puberty). I also have hyper pigmentation but my acne scarring bothers me more! Anyway I have been doing some research and read that Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin are supposed to be exceptionally good for brightening/lightening the skin. I'm not even going to lie I even looked into hydroquinone but oh golly gosh I'd rather have my scars/hyper pigmentation than accidentally damage my skin AND liver etc (YES liver!) from the use of hydroquinone. It's not even that I want to lighten my skin, I love my complexion because God made me the way I am and I respect him for that, but it would be nice if I could just remove the scarring/hyper pigmentation so I could enjoy my makeup free days a little bit more you know!?! ...I'm blabbering on with myself, I'm sorry (not really sorry though am I!?!;)) but anyway let's give you guys a little more insight into Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin.

Niacinamide

"The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%: High-strength Vitamin and Mineral blemish formula by Deciem.
Niacinamide, Vitamin B3, is indicated to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. A high 10% concentration of this vitamin is supported in the formula by zinc salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid to balance visible aspects of sebum activity."

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), 10% Niacinamide, 1% Zinc PCA, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Pentylene Glycol, Carrageenan, Acacia Senegal Gum, Xanthan Gum, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ethoxydiglycol, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

Alpha Arbutin

"The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA: Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA is a concentrated serum with purified Alpha Arbutin and Hyaluronic Acid for hyperpigmented skin by Deciem.

Alpha Arbutin visibly improves skin prone to spots and hyper-pigmentation. Alpha Arbutin is used at a high 2% concentration versus a standard concentration of 1% and supported with a next-generation form of Hyaluronic Acid for enhanced delivery. Alpha Arbutin is much stronger in effect than Arbutin or Beta Arbutin."

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Niacinamide, Zinc PCA, Tamarindus Indica Seed Gum, Pentylene Glycol, Carrageenan, Acacia Senegal Gum, Xanthan Gum, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ethoxydiglycol, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

The Ordinary products sell out tremendously fast so I was unfortunate to only snag the Niacinamide but not the Alpha Arbutin which yes, I legit cried my eyes out because I wanted the Alpha more than the Niacinamide, but hey! At least I managed to get one instead of none!

My overall thought on Niacinamide:

I don't hate it, but I don't love it either! I started noticing a difference in my texture and tone but then it lead to huge breakouts days after use! Maybe it's due to the high percentage of the formula and the use of castor oil in the ingredients or maybe I am just allergic to it! Niacinamide can be used both AM and PM, however I only used it in the mornings as my night time routine consists of homemade vitamin C serum (Niacinamide can affect integrity of pure-form Vitamin C) and my other night time products are very active so I don't want to load my skin with all sorts too much! It's such a shame for me that I breakout from this formula because it had so much potential. Please do not be put off by my initial thought on Niacinamide as every skin is different and what might not work on me, may actually work on you!!! So please let me know your thoughts on the Niacinamide serum from the Ordinary if you have tried it too!

Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

It has been a while since I have departed from my holy grail foundation which is Estee Lauder double wear, but lately my skin has been drier than the sahara dessert and the current foundation I had been using just wasn't sitting on my face the way it used to so it was only right I ventured out and tried something new for a change, for my sake and skins!

Before splashing a huge sum of money on a new foundation, I always have to make sure I do my research in order to breakdown which is going to achieve the best for me and my current skin situation. After reading so many reviews and watching endless videos on YouTube, I was pointed in the NARS direction. Never trying NARS foundation before, I was torn between NARS Sheer Glow and All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation but of course I went for the one with the eye catching mouthful name, not to mention I was sold with the possible results that I would get from this foundation.

So lets have a breakdown of what this foundation is supposed to do then shall we?

"Full, natural-looking coverage with unexpectedly weightless, 16-hour wear. Highly pigmented and perfectly balanced, this breakthrough formula builds and blends effortlessly with just one drop—the result of exclusive innovation uniquely designed to deliver long-wearing full coverage, weightlessly. Shake, pump and blend in sections for complete coverage that's completely natural looking.

Weightless Long-wear Technology delivers up to 16 hours of wear, while always feeling light-as-air. Featuring advanced flexible polymers and first-to-market treated pigments.
Advanced flexible polymers move with the skin, providing extraordinary breathability and comfort.
First-to-market treated pigments weightlessly deliver long-wearing, complete coverage without ever masking for perfected, natural-looking skin."

After testing this foundation out for over 3 weeks now using different techniques to try and decide which works best for me, I must say I have not been let down by this product. You get what you are given I guess and for a formula that has a light watery consistency, a little really does go a long way! I can actually cover my imperfections with 1/2 pumps and still achieve the look I am going for! What I really love the most about this foundation is that I don't have to set it with a powder! Yeah that's right, you can still achieve a semi matte/dewy look with this foundation without having to powder like there's no tomorrow, which is perfect for me as sometimes I just want to go for that natural no makeup look when I'm having a 'meh' day and let me tell you, it's absolutely astonishing how weightless this foundation actually feels, like sometimes I forget that i'm wearing foundation which can be bad sometimes as I end up accidentally touching my face (ew germs) and the transfer after touching my face is awful, but come on my skin can bloody breathe and my pores don't feel or looked as clogged up as they used to!

Overall for me, I would give this foundation 4/5. You really do get the value for the money as you use less product than a normal foundation to achieve the same coverage! However what made me give it an average rating was how transferable this foundation was compared to Estee Lauder Double Wear, but other than that I kinda love this foundation! Let me know your experiences with NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation as there have been mixed views about this foundation and I shall catch you all in my next post!

Let me know which ones you're loving too and we can both sulk and cry together! If you would like to purchase any of these items, click here to find what you're looking for.

Foxy Lashes

I used to have an unhealthy obsession with false eyelashes, like to the point where I would wear false lashes every single day! But that was back in the day when I didn't have much confidence in myself and I used to just doll myself up to the point where I actually liked looking like a deformed Harajuku girl. Sometimes I would wear 3/4 sets of eyelashes on top of each other because well, I could and I wanted to! That's the past anyway, lets leave that behind shall we and lock it up so we never have to revisit that lane ever again.

Now that I am older and I'm looking after myself a lot better, I still like to glam myself up once in a while and make my eyes pop with some falsies. I only ever go for the natural lashes now and let me tell you, FoxyLocks lashes are my savior. The ones I swear by are the 'Lovely Lashes', they are a mix of long and short human hair on a clear band. I can even get away with wearing these lashes in the day time to add a bit of glamour to my look as they are not fake looking one bit. The amount of compliments I get as well from people asking me if my eyelashes are that long and fabulous is amazing and believe me part of me wants to lie and make my head enormous with the compliments but then I snap back into reality and have to give a big shout out to Imogen who is the founder of FoxyLocks.

The eyelashes don't however come with glue but if you invest in a good lash glue (my fave being DUO lash glue) you won't have the stress of repurchasing/replacing lash glue every day/week. The lashes are also reusable which I find it hard with other lash brands and I am not even kidding you right now when I say I am on my 7/8th wear with these lashes. THEY ARE INCREDIBLE.

FoxyLocks lashes are priced at £4.00 a pair and you can purchase them from the website: www.foxylocks.com
I would love to know your experiences with these lashes, so feel free to leave a comment below and lets have a FoxyLocks goss!

Yesterday was my birthday and because it was wednesday and of course I'm a die hard Mean Girls fan, I thought it was only right I dedicated my special day wearing one of my favourite colours in the world... Pink! I don't usually wear colour on my lids, but I guess you have to try something new once in a while! Right?!

I'm Doing My Best..

Now that Uni is literally back round the corner, I have been meaning to sort myself out and get my organisational skills back to 100%. I am the queen of procrastination (like I literally put the pro in procrastination) so when this journal caught my eye when I was having a little browse in Waterstones I knew I had to own this journal for giggles and development in my life. I'm all about having good energy around me and surrounding myself with positive vibes, so when I found out the inside of this journal was filled with daily uplifting quotes I just knew it was meant to be! I really want this journal to help me one day identify and monitor my progress in life so I guess in a way I haven't wasted my money on it, right?!
I am tres excited to let my consciousness flow through jotting down everything that's on my mind, I'm just hoping the procrastinating sloth in me doesn't get sidetracked along the way and abandons this journal!
